Microsoft has implemented new security if documents are created using a different computer then the one it is being opened on.  

To allow Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to always allow the opening of files downloaded from the internet do the following:

Modify the Settings of the Trust Center

  1. Open Microsoft App in question (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint) on your computer.
  2. Select "Options" from the drop-down menu.
  3. From the left menu, select "Trust Center".
  4. Select "Trust Center Settings" from the right-hand menu.
  5. From the left menu, select "protected view".
  6. Uncheck all protected view options to disable them.
*Note: you will need to do this for all 3 programs.


If you would rather do this on a per file basis, instead doing the above fix, do the following:
  1. Download the file
  2. go to where it downloaded and right click on the document and select "Properties"
  3. You should see this at the bottom of the properties tab:

  4. Check UnBlock and select Apply or OK.


You should now be able to open the file.


*Note: This fix is only for Windows versions of Office
